Nursery School Teacher Caught On Camera Assaulting A Four Years Old Have Been Arrested

A video showing a Lagos school teacher violently sl@pping a student multiple times has sparked outrage.

In the video shared online, the teacher, said to be named Stella Nwadigo, is seen telling the boy named Abayomi Michael to write “six” and the child appears to struggle to get it right.

The teacher then slaps him very hard across the face.

Obviously the slap did not achieve the intended result because the boy continued to struggle to write and the teacher slapped him more times.

In total, the teacher gave the child, said to be three years old, no less than four slaps, each one as hard as the previous one.

The incident is said to have happened in Christ-Mitots school in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Rey Mysterio Dies At 66 Years Old

Mexican Wrestling legend, Rey Misterio Sr. has d!ed at age 66.

The death of Mysterio Sr., whose real name is Miguel Ángel López Días, was announced by his son, El Hijo de Rey Misterio (Miguel Aarón López Hernández) on Facebook on Friday, December 20.

“Friends and family, I regret to inform you that my Father, Miguel Ángel López Días, Rey Misterio Sr., Passed away this morning...I will keep you informed. Thank you,” read the statement, originally posted in Spanish. A cause of death was not announced.

Mexican wrestling company Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide also issued a statement on social media to confirm the news.

“We mourn the sensitive passing of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Misterio Sr. We send our deepest condolences to your loved ones and lift our prayers to heaven for your eternal rest,” the statement, originally posted in Spanish, read.

Mysterio Sr. is the uncle of current WWE superstar Rey Misterio.

Misterio’s son, fellow WWE superstar Dominik Misterio, reacted to his death by sharing pictures of him on Instagram, writing in the caption, “🖤.”

His death comes nearly one month after the death of his brother (Misterio’s father), Roberto Gutierrez, at the age of 76 on Nov. 17.

Mysterio Sr. began his career as a boxer before making his in-ring debut as a wrestler in 1976.

Misterio Sr. won various titles throughout his run, including the Revolution Tag Team Championship, which he held with his son, the IWC World Middleweight Championship, and the WWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship, per Newsweek.

Jada P dded that despite being a mother, she is also a manager and has built a great legacy, which is evident. In her words: “I remember when Wizkid won a Grammy for Brown Skin Girl, I wrote a statement of the achievement of how far African music has come. They put that statement out and and the caption was Wizkid’s baby mama. The narrative isn’t seen as you’re an entrepreneur, hardworking, businesswoman. I’m kind of more titled as Wizkid’s baby mama. Not only am I a mother, but I’ve been able to be a manager as well and help to build a great legacy and the result and the history of what I’ve done tells it all.”

Super Eagles, Super Falcons nominated for National Team Of the Year

The Super Eagles and Super Falcons have been nominated for the Men’s and Women’s National Team of the Year at the 2024 CAF Awards.

The two teams made the final shortlist in each of the category.

The Super Eagles made it to the final at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations earlier in the year.

African champions Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire and Bafana Bafana of South Africa are also nominated for the award.Meanwhile, the Super Falcons featured at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France but failed to make it beyond the group stage in the women’s football event.

Banyana Banyana of South Africa and Atlas Lionesses of Morocco are the other teams in contention for the Women’s National Team of the Year.

 

The award ceremony will hold in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday, December 16.

Enyimba Sign Ex-Super Eagles Striker, Ideye

 Nigeria striker and 2013 AFCON winner Brown Ideye has joined nine-time Nigerian champions, Enyimba, until the end of the 2024/25 season

Sporting Director of the Aba giants and ex-international, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, confirmed this to our correspondent on Tuesday.

“He will be with us until the end of the season and we believe he will bolster our team’s attack as we compete in the league and the continent.”

Ideye, 36, has been without a club since leaving Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022 but he is now set to stage a return to Nigeria’s top flight, taking after former international teammates Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu who are currently playing for Kano Pillars.

The move will also mark the return of Ideye to the domestic scene 17 years after he left Ocean Boys in 2006.

Ideye was on the verge of joining former league champions Rivers United in October but the move collapsed.

Enyimba have two matches crucial to their domestic and continental aspirations in the next five days as they play Sunshine Stars on Wednesday in a rescheduled NPFL game before travelling to Maputo, Mozambique for their third group game in the CAF Confederation Cup against Black Bulls.

Ayra Starr, Tems, Gyakie lead Spotify’s top female artistes in Africa

 Spotify, an online streaming platform, celebrated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, who emerged as the most streamed female artiste in three countries: Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya.

Spotify’s Head of Music, in Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Okumu noted that Spotify’s 2024 Wrapped findings revealed the top 10 most streamed female artistes in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, as Ayra Starr led in three countries.

“In Nigeria, the top 10 most streamed artistes are Ayra Starr, Tems, Qing Madi, Billie Eilish, SZA, Tiwa Savage, Bloody Civilian, Rihanna, Simi, and FAVE.

“For Ghana, we have Ayra Starr, Tems, SZA, Gyakie, Rihanna, Adele, Qing Madi, Tiwa Savage, Nicki Minaj, and Beyonce.

“In Kenya, we have Ayra Starr, SZA, Rihanna, Tems, Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, and Beyonce.

“And in South Africa, we have Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, SZA, Rihanna, Beyonce, Nkosazana Daughter, Babalwa M, Ariana Grande, Summer Walker, and Nicki Minaj.

According to Okumu, one of the year’s key developments is the star-studded success of female artistes, women who break boundaries and support an increasingly inclusive and diverse future for African music.

Okumu said that artistes, fans, and creators had ensured that 2024 was a record-breaking, culture-making year.

She said this was with genres like Afrobeats and Amapiano lighting up Sub-Saharan stages and streaming, impacting international trends and inspiring rich cultural conversations.

“When it comes to Sub-Saharan Africa’s most streamed female artistes, there’s no overlooking the allure of Nigerian icons.

“Grammy-nominee Arya Starr blazed a celestial trail with her hit album “The Year I Turned 21,” her worldwide tour, and her fearless red carpet style.

“Starr’s soulful Afropop meets rhythm and blues sound made her the most streamed female songstress in her home country as well as Ghana and Kenya.

“Ghanaians also loved their very own Gyakie, who was the 4th most streamed artiste in her home country.

“Tems took the second spot in Nigeria and Ghana and the fourth spot in Kenya. Nigeria not only produces but also supports talent.

“The country’s most streamed female artists after Arya Starr and Tems include Tiwa Savage, Bloody Civilian, and Spotify EQUAL artists Qing Madi, Simi, and Fave,” she said.

On Spotify’s EQUAL Africa, Okumu said the programme was a global initiative to drive equity and amplify the voices of women through global and local playlisting and off-platform promotion.

She said about 200 EQUAL ambassadors had been supported in the programme’s four-year span.

According to her, South African singer Tyla remained the top EQUAL artiste in Africa.

She said others were: Ayra Starr, Amaarae, Qing Madi, FAVE, Simi, Gyakie, Yemi Alade, Makhadzi, and Teni.
